I got dj hero yesterday and though I’m finding the game quite hard on medium it’s still an enjoyable game. More importantly though I’ve managed to hook my ps3 dj hero controller upto my mac and using gamepad companion I’ve been ae to get the turntable controller to work (but it only reacts to the heaviest of pushes) the turntable uses the z axis to work and so has to be programmes to use multiple presses if you want it to do anything in GarageBand. Hopefully there will be an app that uses the controller at some point ( especially if I look at makin one :p). An interested side note is that it registers itself as a guitar hero 5 controller. This could mean that existing guitar hero 5 controller midi drivers may work with the turntable.
Hey Colin, after just finding out about using my rockband instruments in garage band and also having DJ hero my minds starting wandering. First, I’m still learning garageband and I’m trying to figure out how can I input scratch and spinback samples. But I also found out the the turntable only registers if it spins a 3/4 to full rotation it seems. I’m tempted to open it up and see what makes it activate on z axis or find out how to make the z axis more sensitive. I am not a programmer and regret not keeping up with programming back in the “basic” days. Let me know where you’re at with making up a program. I have some DJ knowledge. Thanks
I think there is a way to turn the sensitivity up in Gamepad companion. I’ve totally become sidetracked with finding a job that I haven’t really looked into it properly. The main problem is the fact that the platter spins so freely, this makes it hard to actually use it properly.
The idea I had of an app was to have 2 songs that ran at parallel, you would then use the red green blue buttons to switch track and use the platter rotation to add scratches though when you stop the song is back in real time.
As for garageband, you can use the sound effect software instruments to add your own sounds from the loop library, if you add scratches to the buttons the platter is effecting you can kind of pull it off
